Sunset moment on the last day of the year

This is my way to say goodbye to the year 2010! As the sun is setting , I am standing by the window looking out with my pochade box trying to leaving the last impression behind.

One more window view early in the afternoon

Simply too cold to paint outdoor. I did this quick oil sketch looking out of the door at 10 a.m.

Dawn on the last day of the year

Trying to paint as many paintings as possible on the last day of the year, I got up early in the morning to sit at the table with my pochade box looking out of the window. The early morning sunlight was lighting  up the trees and the snow covered roof in the backyard.

In the receding sunlight

Always captivated by the snow-covered hedges as they glow with the snow in the last light.

From our front yard this morning

What a beautiful winter morning!

Looking out of the bedroom window early in the morning

Another view of our backyard on Boxing Day morning

This is my 4th painting for the Boxing Day morning , and I have been painting nonstop for 5 hours now.

A window view on the beautiful Boxing Day morning

The sun lit up the hoarfrost laced trees around 10 in the morning, and the intense color and light was pouring into the window.

Another view of Balmoral Bay on Boxing Day morning

After the first painting done from inside of the car, I took my easel out to the side of the street to paint, It was so cold that after just a few minutes my oil paint got frozen solid. Had to stop to get inside  the house to warm myself up.

on the unforgetable sunny morning of Boxing Day

Finally the sun came out after a few days of cloudiness. It was so beautiful outside that I went outside to paint this view from inside of  my car even though both my hands and feet got numb with biting coldness after just half an hour.

A glimpse of the old Rivers Railway Station

Sarah was coming home for Christmas this evening , Fengping and I drove to Rivers to pick her up. Before the train arrived , I managed to finish this quick oil sketch while waiting. It was really cold.

Hedges with snow late Sunday afternoon

Watching the glow of late afternoon light over the snow ,  I did this quick oil sketch through the kitchen window.

A window view , early Sunday afternoon

On a winter sunny morning

It looks deceivingly warm outside when I start  this painting outdoor. Soon the oil paint starts to freeze, and I had to run back to the inside of the house to warm up.

From our window at dusk

The sun light came back to the sky towards evening, and   the blushing rosy hue started to radiate across the horizon. A quick oil sketch before the sun light faded away.

Early winter morning

O, it is so sweet to observe the brief moment when the warm hue of rising sun sweeping through the cold  inky  night sky suddenly imbuing everything in sight with the stir of life.

Another night view out of the window

Looking out of the window at night, I did not feel like going back to bed. The light and color were so beautiful over the blanket of snow , and hence,  another quick oil sketch for today.

In the evening glow

Felt better before supper, and got out of the bed to summer up enough energy to do this quick oil sketch before the light faded away.

Sunny and beautiful outside

Attacked by migraine headache, I had to stay in bed, and slept  in. It was so beautiful outside, but alas, being too sick to paint outdoor. Nevertheless, I could not resist the temptation, and tried to do a quick oil sketch only to stop half way through due to a surge of sick  feel to the stomach. Had to go back to bed.

After a heavy snow storm

Visually I had to admit that  I enjoy the sight of a winter with heavy snow. Standing at the door, doing this pochade of the view over the hedges where the few spruce trees were loaded with heavy snow is  a heavenly experience.

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

It is always captivating me visually, the winter night scene. There is a feel of serenity and cozy  warmness about the view that keeps on beckoning me to do more. A quick oil sketch at the door.

From our backyard again

Not warm certainly but warm enough for me to stand outside in our backyard  to finish this oil sketch before I could feel the bite of the cold.
